#61 The Trifecta Burger.
The 3 T’s of soy came together in this deliciously meaty burger. This was a hit with Ben and I’d like to say with Georgia Mae as well, but she doesn’t eat anything these days.
The photo of this burger in the book looked so crispy and light and mine didn’t turn out that way which was a bit disappointing but it was still very tasty.
We ate this on a bagel bun with roasted carrots, polenta fries and an Asian slaw on the side.

#7 Sweet Caramelized Onion Burger was in the breakfast section of the book. Probably my favourite section so far, but this burger was a bit disappointing because it was really dry and gritty.

So I’ve fallen behind once again. I’m just going to do a ton of posts so I can catch up and maybe then I can keep up again.

#15 Three Pepper Stir-Fry burger.
This burger was not really a burger..it was more of a super tasty, peanut buttery rice patty. It didn’t hold up like a burger would so it was better to be served without the bun. This burger was asian inspired and although it was wheat and soy free, I would have thought for sure that it had soy sauce in it if I didn’t know.

I only got one picture of this burger. I served it up on a bed of romaine lettuce with some spring rolls and peanut sauce. I also had the leftovers in a giant salad the next day. I will be making these again!

Is it too soon to say that I am sick of eating burgers? Well, I am getting pretty close to that point. I actually told Ben yesterday that I didn’t think I could go on to finish the book. Maybe things will start moving along faster once summer gets here and maybe that will make me feel like eating burgers more often.
#47…Popeye Burger. From what I can remember, this burger was delicious! I have fallen behind once again and to be honest, I can’t even remember how long ago we had this burger.

Spinach, rice, pine nuts…what an incredible combination!
These formed into patties beautifully….you fooled me again Joni Marie Newman.
I baked these and served them up with a simple salad.

I made these 5 burgers for Ben’s 30th birthday. It has taken me so long to write about them because the morning after the party, I woke up with the stomach flu. I had to work my way up to remembering the flavours of these burgers because every time I would think about them, I wanted to barf. It’s still somewhat of a touchy subject with me so I’m going to keep this short and sweet instead of telling you that each and everyone of these tasty little burgers made me want to barf for 2 days.
I also got very few photos of each burger. I was so busy getting everything ready, that when it came time to eat and take pictures, I had zero appetite. Which was probably also due to the fact that I was coming down with a stomach bug.
#25 Masa Massala Burger

This burger was wheat and soy free, which are two of my enemies. I served these of mini pitas with a simple tahini sauce.
#34 Pizza burger. What can I say, this little burger was the best of the night in my opinion and the only burger that doesn’t make my stomach turn when I think about eating it.

You could also use the mix from this burger recipe to top a pizza. It tasted so much like vegan pepperoni. I served this on a tiny bun with a vegan pesto.

#45 Bacon Cheeseburger…

This burger had a ton of bacon flavour but not enough cheese. I wish I had more time so I could have topped them with cheese. I also used store bought bacon bits instead of making my own but again, I didn’t have enough time. I don’t know how caterers do it.
I also served these on tiny buns with ketchup and mustard.

#48 is the Mind Your Peas and ‘Ques burger. This burger was a combination of peas and BBQ sauce. I know, that sounds weird, but this was one of my favourites of the night. I am pretty sure that the majority of the people that were here loved these too!

Finally, #79 the Coconut Rum Rice Burger. This burger was wheat and soy free and also contained actual coconut rum. So I guess it was kind of an expensive burger to make in the end.

This recipe made a crap load of sliders! I think the original recipe said it would yield 8-10 burgers and I ended up getting about 25-30 sliders. I served these up on fluffy little dinner rolls with a slice of grilled pineapple.
To finish up, here is a photo of the table full of little sliders.

I’m playing catch-up now. #100 is the Pulled Pork Sammy. Cool thing about this book is that not every recipe is your traditional burger. There is a whole section dedicated to loose “meat” sandwiches and a few real cheater burger recipes for burger shaped cookies and pancakes.

This “burger” was a whole lotta work. I had to make homemade seitan which requires a resting period. Then I had to simmer it in a broth for about half an hour or so.

Once that gruelling process was over, I had to shred the “meat” with a fork. I’m going to be perfectly honest, this kinda sucked a lot. I think when you do this with real pork that has been cooked to death it is MUCH easier to shred with a fork.
Really though, it wasn’t that bad. What was that bad was when I realized what I was putting into my body. A pile of wet dough, surrounded by toasted bread. Bread on bread with fries. Carb overload.

Look at that lovely brown meal. Gillian Mckeith would be so pissed at me for this one. Well, there were some carrots in the lovely slaw that I topped the burger with soooo, yeah.
Despite what seems like a bad review, this sandwich was extremely tasty, it just didn’t make me feel good about eating it though. Also, not recommended for anyone with a wheat allergy..whoops.
